Pokémon GO Increases Storage Cap Ahead of November Community Day

In celebration of the final two Pokémon GO Community Days of the year, Niantic has announced it will be offering an increase in storage caps for players’ item bags and Pokémon storage. Held one day every month for a duration of six hours, Community Days in Pokémon GO offer players increased chances to obtain a featured Pokémon, as well as other extra rewards for participating in the event.

2021 marks the fifth anniversary of Niantic’s popular augmented reality mobile title, as well as the 25th anniversary of the Pokémon franchise. As a result, Pokémon GO players have enjoyed a plethora of special events to celebrate the occasion throughout the past year, including the incredibly successful Pokémon GO Fest 2021 in July. While the year is almost drawing to a close, the game continues to have more in store for its players, with a recent announcement revealing that singer Ed Sheeran will collaborate with Pokémon GO for an unspecified project.

In a post on its Twitter support account, Niantic announced that it will be offering upgrades to player storage in Pokémon GO shortly before the commencement of the game’s November and December Community Days. The first increase is scheduled to occur the week before Pokémon GO’s November Community Day, and would mean that the maximum storage would increase to 5,000 for Pokémon, and 4,000 for players’ item bags. The second storage upgrade will be available before the December Community Day, raising the threshold by another 500 slots, allowing players to store 5,500 Pokémon, and 4,500 items.

Along with the storage upgrades, Niantic will also offer players the ability to obtain up to three free Raid Passes from Gyms, and lower the amount of Stardust required for trading by 25% during the Shinx Pokémon GO Community Day. The event is scheduled to begin on Sunday, November 21 from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm local time, during which the Generation IV Electric-type Pokémon Shinx will appear more frequently. Players who evolve their Shinx into Luxio during this time will also be able to learn the Charged Attack Psychic Fangs upon evolving the Pokémon into its final form, Luxray.

The increase in storage will no doubt be a welcome upgrade for avid Pokémon GO players looking to catch 'em all in the popular mobile game. Although there are still a few days to go before the event kicks off, fans can keep busy with Pokémon GO’s Diamond & Pearl Event, which celebrates the release of Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, and is currently taking place until November 21.
