The first trailer for Pam & Tommy reveals a February 2022 release date. The Hulu original series stars Sebastian Stan as Tommy Lee and Lily James as Pamela Anderson in the real-life story about the Hollywood/rock star couple who famously married after only knowing each other for 96 hours. The series will follow their "whirlwind" romance, during which their personal sex tape was stolen and released online. The film co-stars Seth Rogen as Rand Gauthier and Nick Offerman as Uncle Miltie. Taylor Schilling also joins the cast as Erica Gauthier, Mike Seely as Playboy magnate Hugh Hefner, and a recurring role with Andrew Dyce Clay.
The eight-episode series is written by Robert Siegel (The Founder, The Wrestler), who also serves as showrunner, with Craig Gillespie (I, Tonya) directing. Originally, the series was going to be directed by and star James Franco as Tommy Lee, but the actor later left the series before Hulu picked it up. Numerous publicity photos have been shared by Stan and James since production started and fuelled the hype for the show, which seems to have a built-in appeal given the sex tape controversy and larger-than-life personalities being portrayed.
Hulu just released the first trailer for Pam & Tommy, which gives a sense of how the events will be portrayed onscreen, as well as announcing the release date of the series: February 2, 2022. The show is said to chronicle the tumultuous romance between the two stars, up to and including the theft of their sex tape, which was taken by disgruntled electrician Rand Gauthier when he stole the couple's home safe as revenge for being fired by Lee, who also pointed a gun at him. The distribution of the tape itself was a convoluted nightmare for all involved and despite multiple lawsuits filed, no one was ever charged with a crime. If anything, the entire incident makes for a more cinematic tale than a real-world one, which Pam & Tommy looks to capture. Check out the trailer below:
Stan is, of course, the famed Winter Soldier/Bucky Barnes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He'll next be seen in Simon Kinberg's female spy actioner The 355. Lily James is most famous for her parts in the live-action Cinderella and Edgar Wright's Baby Driver. Gillespie recently directed Disney's Cruella and may return for the sequel.
The allure of Pam & Tommy is easy to spot. It's a classic sex, drugs, and rock-and-roll kind of tale with big names, big egos, and big... business. The real-life tale has all the makings of the ultimate genre mashup, including heist thriller, softcore romp, and celebrity biography, starring two of (real) Hollywood's hottest stars with a strong creative team to tell such a wild and crazy story. Be it titillation, entertainment, or pure curiosity, viewers are primed to tune in for Pam & Tommy, which may well be the trashy tale people need to see when they tune in next February.
