Players can catch 28 unique forms of the Unown in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, but some have to be unlocked first. The Unown forms represent 26 letters as well as two punctuations. They are only available to catch in a specific cave that players can find fairly early on in the game. Using a few special types of PokéBalls, players can quickly catch all 28 of the Unown.
Catching Unown easily will require a decent stockpile of Quick Balls or Dusk Balls. Quick Balls can be thrown at the start of an encounter to give players a greater chance of catching the Pokémon right away. Players can use these on lower level Unown to catch them at full health. Dusk Balls increase the chances of catching Pokémon in a cave, so they can also be thrown at the Unown to catch them easily as well.
All of the Unown are located in the Solaceon Ruins which are on the right side of Solaceon Town. Solaceon is a town that players can reach on their way to the fourth gym leader in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, Crasher Wake. Once in Solaceon Town, players can head northeast to reach an area with a series of small ledges. Go all the way to the right and then jump down the ledges to reach the Solaceon Ruins cave entrance.
After entering the Solaceon Ruins, players can wander around finding a series of small and large rooms. Reaching the final room will award players four items, but the Unown can be found along the way. The letters that spell out "Friend," can be found by roaming around the larger passageways, and the other 20 Unown letters are in the small dead ends with a single rock in them. This is the only way to find and catch Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl's Unown.
Finding all 26 Unown letters can take a while, but as long as players keep roaming around in the small and large areas, they will encounter all of them. Once every letter is caught, players will unlock a new area of the Solaceon Ruins that holds the exclamation point and question mark Unowns. This passageway can only be reached by heading to Route 214. Go south to reach a cave that has a Ruins Maniac at the far end. He will dig through the wall after the first 26 Unown are caught. The entrance leads to an isolated area of the Solaceon Ruins with the last of the Unown.
Unown are mysterious Pokémon that represent letters and punctuation marks. They can be caught by visiting every area in the Solaceon Ruins, which are located in Solaceon Town and off of Route 214. Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl include rare Pokémon such as various roaming legendaries and every form of the Unown. Players can catch all of the different forms early on in the game by entering and exploring the ruins.
Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are available for Nintendo Switch.
