Peacemaker Video Shows Off HBO Show Sets As Hilarious Obstacle Course

In promotion of the upcoming series Peacemaker, a video shows off an obstacle course dubbed “Peacemaker’s Proving Ground.” Following James Gunn’s first film in the DC Extended Universe, The Suicide Squad, the writer/director’s first series in the universe is set to premiere on HBO Max on January 13. The show will focus on John Cena’s Christopher Smith aka Peacemaker, the “douchey version of Captain America,” who was revealed to have survived the battle at Corto Maltese during The Suicide Squad’s end credits scene.

Peacemaker will take place after The Suicide Squad while simultaneously exploring the origins of Cena’s character. As mentioned by Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) in the flagship film, Christopher’s father “trained him as a soldier since the day he was born.” Gunn serves as showrunner and writer and directed five episodes of the series while finishing work on The Suicide Squad. The trailer for Peacemaker was released during DC FanDome last month, giving fans a look at the series’ tone, style, and sets.

The official Twitter account for HBO Max Brasil recently shared a video of an in-person activity that debuted at San Diego’s Comic-Con Special Edition. The hilarious “Peacemaker’s Proving Ground” obstacle course replicates the show’s sets (among other things). Check it out below:

The Suicide Squad’s end credits scene showed Steve Agee's John Economos and Jennifer Holland's Emilia Harcourt visiting Peacemaker in the hospital, recruiting the criminal to “save the f***ing world.” In addition to Cena, Agee, and Holland, the eight-episode series will star Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo, Robert Patrick as Auggie Smith, Freddie Stroma as Vigilante, Christopher Heyerdahl as Captain Locke, Chukwudi Iwuji as Clemson Murn, Lochlyn Munro as Larry Fitzgibbon, Annie Chang as Sophie Song, Rizwan Manji as Jamil, and Elizabeth Faith Ludlow as Keeya. Peacemaker will reportedly be more comedic and grounded than The Suicide Squad, touching upon some real-world issues through the lens of its genre while simultaneously expanding Gunn’s universe.

Gunn has repeatedly teased other DC projects in the works besides PeacemakerThis has only helped to build anticipation for a series that could be the beginning of what fans are calling the “Gunn-Verse.” After Gunn finishes work on the final installment in his Guardians of the Galaxy franchise with Marvel Studios, his attention will likely return to Warner Bros/DC projects. There’s no telling what DC/The Suicide Squad characters could show up in the series. If the above obstacle course is any indication, fans should prepare themselves.
