Jeremy Renner Has Hilarious Reaction To Hawkeye Avengers Battle Stats

Jeremy Renner reacts to the idea that Hawkeye is the most important Avenger based on battle statistics. Clint Barton made his first appearance in Kenneth Branagh's Thor in 2011, although he didn't properly debut until 2012's The Avengers. From there, Marvel Studios gradually developed the character's arc through ensemble projects. But now, the team's resident marksman will finally be the center of attention in his own Disney+ series, Hawkeye.

Clint is one of the three founding MCU heroes still active in the franchise after the Infinity Saga. Despite being in the universe for so long, it's no secret that he's usually been relegated to playing a supporting character, unlike most of his fellow original Avengers. His contributions to the team had been minimized, and sometimes even ridiculed, since unlike some of his teammates, he's one of the two non-superpowered characters in the lineup — the other one being Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow. However, looking back at the Avengers' battle history, it appears as if Hawkeye is more important than initially perceived, as they seemed to lose every single time he wasn't involved in a mission.

Renner is currently promoting the Hawkeye series, which is slated to premiere on Disney+ this Wednesday, November 24, and was asked about the matter by BBC Radio 1 (via u/l_l_l-illiam). Instead of delving deep into this information, the actor just laughed it off and simply said "yeah, do the stats." However, he didn't say if he was aware of this claim that has been floating around on Reddit for years. Watch his hilarious response to this query below:

Hawkeye has sat out of a few Avengers missions, primarily due to his desire to properly retire and spend time with his family. The Bartons were officially introduced in Avengers: Age of Ultron when the heroes found out about their teammate's secret farm hideout where his family lived. By the end of the 2015 movie, he made good on his promise to his wife, Laura, and walked away from his superhero gig. But when Captain America and Iron Man's conflict went down in Captain America: Civil War, he was forced to come out of retirement and partake in the mess. This was actually what led to his being uninvolved in the initial fight against Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War, which is largely the basis of this argument.

For what it's worth, Hawkeye has been underutilized in the MCU, especially given his status as an original Avenger. But, as with what appears to be Marvel Studios' approach to his Disney+ series, Hawkeye can change finally that as fans learn more about him as a character. It could also lay the groundwork for his future in the franchise as it moves on from the events of the Infinity Saga.
