Eternals' Harry Styles wears pre-Earth clothes as his new Marvel Cinematic Universe character, Eros, in a new behind-the-scenes image. ChloĆ© Zhao’s Eternals was released in theaters earlier this month, introducing its eponymous immortal alien race created by the Celestials to the MCU. The film follows the Eternals as they reunite after thousands of years to combat the Deviants, who have reemerged following the events of Avengers: Endgame. The ensemble effort stars Gemma Chan, Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, Lia McHugh, Brian Tyree Henry, Lauren Ridloff, Barry Keoghan, Don Lee, Salma Hayek, and Angelina Jolie. And, if that weren’t enough, Eternals’ mid-credits scene introduces another immortal newcomer.
Musician and Dunkirk actor, Styles, is introduced as Eros/Starfox, the brother of Thanos, alongside his sidekick Pip the Troll (Patton Oswalt) after the credits roll on Eternals — something that was revealed online not long after the film’s world premiere. Eros joins Thena (Jolie), Makkari (Ridloff), and Druig (Keoghan) on their ship to offer his assistance for their next conflict. Given Styles' profile and his characters’ connection to Thanos, it’s safe to say Marvel has big plans for him. Eros was reportedly even considered to be one of the main characters of Eternals before his role became much smaller.
McHugh, who plays Sprite in Eternals, recently took to Instagram to share a series of behind-the-scenes images. One of the photos shows McHugh posing alongside Madden and Styles as the trio sports the robes worn by the immortals in the film’s opening scene, before they arrive on Earth. In the final cut of the film, this scene did not feature Styles. Check it out below:

The cast of Eternals recently revealed that an additional scene featuring Styles' Eros was left on the cutting room floor. The scene in question involves the Eternals and Eros sitting aboard the spacecraft Domo with their eyes closed and communicating with the Celestial Arishem (voiced by David Kaye). Based on that description, many viewers assumed the deleted scene was a continuation of the mid-credits scene. However, the above photo seems to confirm that Styles’ deleted scene took place at the beginning of the movie.
Eternals is already over two and a half hours long and features a wide ensemble of characters, some of which get more screen time than others (for better or worse). The inclusion of a star as recognizable as Styles at the beginning of the film, to then have him leave, would certainly have been distracting for the audience. While it may have been exciting to see him interact with all of the Eternals, keeping him as a last-minute surprise is more impactful. Still, hopefully, Marvel will release the deleted Eternals scene at some point, that so viewers can get an extended look at Eros, which may or may not reveal details about his MCU future.
