RHOSLC: Heather Gay Writing Memoir About Leaving the Mormon Church

The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City's Heather Gay has announced that she is writing a memoir titled Bad Mormon. The book is expected to chronicle her experience leaving the Mormon church as well as her journey as a mother. Heather has briefly discussed some of her past experiences in the Mormon church on the show, and fans might finally be able to contextualize those moments upon her book's upcoming release.

When Heather first appeared on season 1 of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City, she seemed to be proud of her Mormon ancestry as she referenced it in her tagline, but she also made it clear that she was interested in focusing on the future rather than the past in saying that she was here to "blaze a trail". She revealed that she married into Mormon royalty, but after 11 years together, Heather and her husband divorced. She has been open about the challenges of being a single mother of three girls and has often expressed concern regarding how her children will navigate life following their split from the Mormon church. Heather frequently mentioned that she was made to stifle aspects of her personality during her time in the church and has been open about how leaving the church has allowed her to more fully realize her dreams as both a woman and a business owner. In her season 2 tagline, Heather expresses that she feels her current life should be celebrated, saying that while she was "raised Mormon" she's now "raising a glass."

Heather recently announced that she will be releasing a memoir titled Bad Mormon, which will explore her life as a Mormon, an ex-Mormon, and as a single mother of three. Heather informed People that she is looking forward to the book's release. The book will also explore aspects of Heather's life that viewers haven't yet been able to see. Heather has often channeled her past experiences and regrets into teachable moments for both her children and viewers of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City. She seems to have written the memoir in a similar fashion as she has hopes that her memoir will be of some help to readers. "I hope that by sharing my experiences people will learn and grow from my mistakes, challenges, and successes," says Heather.

Bad Mormon can be expected to hit shelves on July 26, 2022. In addition to following her time in the church and the struggles she has experienced as a mother, the book will also highlight her current religious beliefs as well as how being a star on The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City has changed her life; beyond getting DMs from Rihanna encouraging her to "keep it real," of course. The upcoming memoir is sure to be packed with a healthy serving of saucy details, and maybe even some of Heather's favorite meatballs too. "A good Mormon would never write a book like this," Heather says.

In the past, some fans have expressed that while they respect Heather for her vulnerability and humility, they want to see more from the ex-Mormon business owner. When it comes to drama on The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City, Heather has generally passed on the salt, often choosing to reconcile with co-star Jen Shah after a number of arguments, and trying to remain relatively neutral in times of conflict amongst the other housewives the show. Bad Mormon might quell the appetite of those hoping to see more than the sweet and relatable Heather fans have grown to love throughout season 1 and season 2.
