Genshin Impact 2.2: Everything The New Tsurumi Island Adds

The Version 2.2 update is out for Genshin Impact and among other things, it adds Tsurumi Island, a whole new island for the Inazuma region. This makes a total of six large islands that players can explore in Inazuma now. This includes Narukami Island, Kannazuka, Yashiori Island, Watatsumi Island, Seirai Island, and now Tsurumi Island. The smaller offshoot islands such as Ritou are not included, as they are considered part of one of the larger islands. For those interested in checking out the new Tsurumi Island, here's all the content it adds.

Players can get to Tsurumi Island in Genshin Impact by first talking to Katheryne of the Adventurer’s Guild. It needs to be the Katheryne in Inazuma, as the Katherynes at the other Adventurer’s Guild locations are seemingly separate entities. Speaking with Katheryne starts A Particularly Particular Author, which is part of the Through The Mists world quest.

Katheryne in Inazuma directs players to speak to Sumida, an author trying to write a book for the contest “This Novel is Amazing!” Throughout Genshin Impact, players will meet other writers who are also competing. Sumida wants to hear the sound that a Maushiro makes, which is a type of instrument used on Tsurumi Island. So, off to the island the Traveler and Paimon go.

Conveniently, Paimon and players land next to a Statue of the Seven when reaching Tsumuri Island in Genshin Impact. Interacting with it unveils a map of the island, so players can better explore without getting lost. Unfortunately, most of the new area is obscured by fog. Considering what players have had to deal with on other islands, this should be a walk in the park. However, Tsurumi Island is covered with a mist so thick that it can make navigation difficult.

Fortunately, some objects shine through the fog, acting as a beacon for players to head toward. There are of course ways to clear the fog, and most of it is through the “A Particularly Particular Author” part of the world quest. Getting lost in the beautifully rendered fog is still fun. Weather is something Genshin Impact does well. Clearing the storms from Yashiori Island felt like real progression, especially when players were finally able to see the sun after dealing with thunderstorms for so long. Clearing the storms on Seirai Island was exciting too, especially when it came to climbing the floating rocks.

Dispersing the fog that blankets Tsurumi Island also feels great. To clear most of it, players will need to make offerings at perches, which is done through the world quest. These perches are large trees, and in some respects, it is like the Thunder Sakura trees found on Kannazuka. Players will have to gather the feathers that scatter when they touch the perch. Fortunately, the glowing feathers are visible through the fog, as well as on the map. Finding all of them and returning to the tree clears the nearby fog. There are four locations throughout the island where players will need to do this.

Sometimes, making an offering to the perches is a little more difficult than simply returning the feathers. Players will need to fight enemies around the perch at Autake Plains. Shirikoro Peak in Genshin Impact is the most difficult perch location on Tsurumi Island. Finding all the feathers involves multiple steps with fighting enemies and solving puzzles. The area is big enough to incorporate optional puzzles to solve as well. There are a good number of rewards, though, and the puzzles are well-designed and make sense - unlike some others in the game.

There is more to do on Tsurumi Island than just the main world quest, however. There are plenty of chests to discover, puzzles to solve, challenges to complete, and new Shrines of Depths. This is par for the course for Genshin Impact. Many of the things on the new island will look familiar.

Players will encounter familiar slimes and hilichurls. Tsurumi Island and Genshin Impact 2.2 also bring new monsters, such as the Thundercraven Rifthound Whelp. Its attacks deal corrosion damage, which causes all characters in the party to continually lose HP. Additionally, depending on their element, they can enter an Elemental Devourer state that weakens their resistance to the element, but also deals more damage. There are other variants of the Whelps, such as the Rockfond Elemental Whelp, and there are mature versions as well, which are much stronger. It is a similar progression from the Geovishap to the Geovishap Hatchlings found in Liyue.

Florescent Fungus is a new local specialty item, found growing on the ground throughout the island. It glows blue, which makes it easy to pick out among the fog. So far it doesn’t have much use, but eventually it will be used as a character Ascension material for Thoma. So for those looking to get Thoma when he's playable, now is the time to stock up on Florescent Fungus.

The Florescent Fungus is also used in some quests, though players will have to wait to see them. Like other questlines seen previously, such as Tartara Tales, players unlock the next step of a quest chain when they log in the next day. Though it is not exactly part of the Tsurumi Island, the Moshiri Kara Domain is part of the new update. It is a mansion set up in the middle of the ocean outside the sea of fog. Players can reach it by sailing there in a Waverider. The closest Waverider Waypoint is near Shirikoro Peak, so players will want to finish the perch offering there first.

Although the Inazuma region in Genshin Impact is still full of content, Tsurumi Island marks the final major island to be introduced. Finding a way through the fog and solving puzzles and finishing perches is a lot of fun, but the materials may be the most important new content added here - since they're used for quests and Thoma's character Ascension. For those already caught up on the story, the new Tsurumi Island offers plenty to do in Genshin Impact 2.2.
