Akira Toriyama's Dragon Ball manga series has garnered extreme levels of popularity since its debut in the '80s, and a new collaboration with FILA will allow fans to celebrate the franchise with a series of sneakers, beginning with a pair inspired by antihero Vegeta.
In the almost 40 years since Toriyama's Dragon Ball series first made its debut in the Weekly Shōnen Jump manga magazine, it has grown into a franchise which has motivated five highly beloved animated television series, helped invigorate a mainstream love of anime in America and beyond, produced countless movies, and continues to put out manga for millions of fans across the world. This new collaboration between FILA and the manga is another step in providing awesome merchandise to a devoted fan base.
The announcement, which came out of the Funimation panel at this year's New York Comic Con (and has been confirmed by Funimation on their website), won't be the last. Representatives revealed that the Vegeta design is just one in a line of many Dragon Ball Super inspired shoes that will be rolling out from the popular footwear company. The rest of the line is set to be revealed sometime in November, but for now fans will just have to get hyped based on the look of the Vegeta pair below. The actual shoe styles are not new to the FILA footwear line, but their Renno sneakers are getting a makeover with the newly announced anime collaboration, and will be available in men's and children's sizes at $100 and $90 respectively, as reported by CBR.
Vegeta's Super Saiyan God form armor is the specific inspiration for the FILA Renno x Dragon Ball Super Vegeta shoe. The blue, white, and gold color scheme alone is enough to remind devoted fans of the iconic armor, but if that wasn't enough, the tongue and heel of the shoe also display the Dragon Ball Super logo so there's no way of missing the reference. The sneakers are intended to capture the spirit of the proud Saiyan prince whose life mission is to become the greatest warrior who ever lived.
According to Funimation they'll also be releasing a FILA F-13 x Dragon Ball Super Trunks pair "which pays homage to his faded denim, red scarf, and sword." Although it's still unclear exactly how many shoes they'll be releasing for this collaboration, it'll still be exciting to see what other character/shoe style combinations they'll announce come November. One thing is for sure, if the FILA Renno x Dragon Ball Super Vegeta shoes are any indication, the rest of the line is sure to be epic.
