Breath of the Wild Player Finds Better Use For Rock Salt Than Cooking

A Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild player recently discovered that Rock Salt isn't only perfect for cooking, it makes a fine tool for solving pressure plate puzzles, as well. Rock Salt has many uses in BOTW, especially as a cooking ingredient. Dozens of recipes call for the crystallized salt, in fact, including Monster Rice Balls, Risotto, Veggie Cream Soup, and Wheat Bread.

Players can find the ingredient in deposits of Ore and Luminous Stone. The item's also purchasable in multiple shops across Hyrule Kingdom such as Marot Mart in Zora's Domain and Goron City's Goron Gusto shop. While Rock Salt proves effective in terms of seasoning, it is additionally beneficial for food preservation because of its ability to lengthen the duration of special effects. Thus, meals that offer attack or defense buffs hold their special qualities for a bit longer if Rock Salt appears in the recipe.

While trying to solve one of Breath of the Wild's pressure plate puzzles, Reddit user Lolblur stumbled across a different use for Rock Salt - one that doesn't involve cooking in the slightest. Rock Salt is, apparently, an excellent way of applying the necessary amount of weight to pressure plates. Another fan in the Reddit thread's comments noted that Campfires can also weigh down the plates in a pinch. Who knew these relatively random items were so versatile beyond their base functionality? Lolblur shared a 15-second clip of their Rock Salt discovery in the following video:

No doubt Rock Salt has other surprising uses that fans have yet to discover. BOTW is packed with secrets, after all, little touches here and there that still elude players after nearly five years. For example, one player recently uncovered a secret scene that only activates under certain circumstances.

Breath of the Wild hit store shelves in 2017 and quickly garnered critical acclaim. Now the wait persists for Breath of the Wild's highly-anticipated sequel, which Nintendo announced more than two years ago during its E3 2019 presentation. The title resurfaced at this year's E3, thanks to a 90-second trailer that fans continue to dissect. When Nintendo will grace audiences with another look at the next adventure remains a mystery.
