Sony has unveiled the final Uncharted trailer. The promo finds Tom Holland‘s Nathan Drake charting a course for adventure as he and his partner Victor Sullivan (Mark Wahlberg) survive several life-threatening situations in their search for treasure. In addition to showing off some of the film’s larger set pieces, the final Uncharted trailer also gives us a better look at Antonio Banderas’ villainous Moncada and Tati Gabrielle’s Braddock. Both Banderas and Gabrielle look as if they’re willing to spill a lot of blood while giving Nathan a valuable lesson in the art of competitive treasure hunting.
Here’s the official synopsis for Uncharted:
Street-smart thief Nathan Drake (Tom Holland) is recruited by seasoned treasure hunter Victor “Sully” Sullivan (Mark Wahlberg) to recover a fortune lost by Ferdinand Magellan 500 years ago. What starts as a heist job for the duo becomes a globe-trotting, white-knuckle race to reach the prize before the ruthless Moncada (Antonio Banderas), who believes he and his family are the rightful heirs. If Nate and Sully can decipher the clues and solve one of the world’s oldest mysteries, they stand to find $5 billion in treasure and perhaps even Nate’s long-lost brother…but only if they can learn to work together.
Directed by Ruben Fleischer, Uncharted serves as the origin story for protagonist Nathan Drake (Tom Holland) from the video games of the same name created by Amy Hennig. Uncharted is an action-adventure game that follows Drake, a treasure hunter, who travels across the world to uncover various historical mysteries. The main series began with “Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune”, released on PlayStation 3 in 2007, and was followed by several sequels. The series has been universally acclaimed and commercially successful, having shipped more than 41 million units, making it one of the best-selling video game franchises of all time.
After spending years in development hell and even more delays thanks to the pandemic, Sony’s live-action adaptation of Naughty Dog’s Uncharted videogame franchise is nearly upon us. Sony’s Uncharted project has seen many directors come and go, including David O. Russell, Neil Burger, Seth Gordon, Shawn Levy, Dan Trachtenberg, and Travis Knight. I hope that Fleischer has what it takes to make a movie worthy of such storied characters.
Thankfully, we have press junket footage for Uncharted coming to the site real soon, which is sure to provide us with more insight into this intriguing adaptation.
