#Roommates, as fans are currently enjoying the long-awaited second season of the Emmy-winning HBO series ‘Euphoria,’ national anti-drug information program D.A.R.E feels an entirely different way. In a recent statement, D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) slammed ‘Euphoria’ for “glorifying” drug use and drug addiction among teenagers.

If you’re a fan of “Euphoria” then you know that the teen drama series features extremely heavy drug use involving minors, specifically Zendaya’s character Rue, who is a severe drug addict. Well apparently, the D.A.R.E. program believes it’s all too much and that the show sends a terrible example to kids. @TMZ_TV reports, D.A.R.E. recently spoke about the intense depiction of drugs on the show—and the criticism is harsh to say the least. “Rather than further each parent’s desire to keep their children safe from the potentially horrific consequences of drug abuse and other high-risk behavior, HBO’s television drama, ‘Euphoria,’ chooses to misguidedly glorify and erroneously depict high school student drug use, addiction, anonymous sex, violence, and other destructive behaviors as common and widespread in today’s world, “ the statement said.

There’s more, as D.A.R.E. went even further regarding ‘Euphoria’s’ imagery and failing to highlight the consequences of drug use. “It is unfortunate that HBO, social media, television program reviewers, and paid advertising have chosen to refer to the show as ‘groundbreaking,’ rather than recognizing the potential negative consequences on school-age children who today face unparalleled risks and mental health challenges,” the program’s statement continued.

However, there seems to be a bit of light at the end of the tunnel, as D.A.R.E says it would like to meet with the creators of ‘Euphoria’ to discuss ways to improve the depiction of drug use on the show.

A representative for D.A.R.E. stated “We would welcome the opportunity for our team, including members of our high school-aged Youth Advocacy Board, to meet with individuals at HBO who are involved with producing Euphoria’ to present our concerns directly.”
