Secret Invasion: Samuel L Jackson Video Gives Better Old Nick Fury Look

Samuel L. Jackson has given more detailed look at his old Nick Fury in Secret Invasion in a new video. As the primary force for the Avengers Initiative, the former director of SHIELD has been a key player since Marvel's Phase 1. Fury was introduced via the iconic Iron Man post-credits scene and has since become a regular figure in the MCU, oftentimes functioning as a supporting character to the main heroes' stories. Fury made himself scarce in Phase 3, only appearing in a handful of projects, but now he's set to headline his own Disney+ show in Secret Invasion.

On the heels of the Infinity Saga, Marvel Studios is expanding its horizon by producing its own TV projects, all exclusively streaming on Disney+. That includes Secret Invasion, which will see Fury teaming up again with Ben Mendelsohn's Talos the Srull, who debuted in the 2019 movie Captain Marvel. Since then, more information about the project has come to light, with Olivia Colman, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Killian Scott, and Emilia Clarke all joining the project's cast. Meanwhile, during Disney+ Day 2022, the first look at an older version of Nick Fury for the show was revealed. The snippet was very brief, but it was enough to get people talking about the upcoming series.

Jackson is currently busy filming for Secret Invasion, and now a new video of him offers a better look at his character's appearance in the series. As revealed in a video shared by Chris Gardner on Twitter, Jackson sent a message to MCU co-star Scarlett Johansson as she became the 35th recipient of the American Cinematheque Award. In the clip, he's noticeably sporting the same longer grey beard that he had in the Disney+ Day reveal. Watch the video below:

Plot specifics for Secret Invasion are still scant at the moment, but it is expected to take narrative inspiration from the Secret Wars comic book storyline. One of the most expansive stories in print, the story centers on the Skrulls sneakily taking over Earth, which is made possible by their shape-shifting capabilities. Marvel boss Kevin Feige has said that Secret Invasion is the most elaborate comic book narrative the studio has brought to the MCU since Civil War, which was adapted in Captain America: Civil War. But unlike the 2016 Joe and Anthony Russo film, Marvel Studios has more time to flesh out the narrative given its TV show format. However, since the project doesn't even have a release date yet, there likely won't be any more additional information in the coming months. Instead, Marvel is focused on its other small screen endeavors, such as Ms. Marvel and Moon Knight.

Fury's new look is more than enough to keep fans speculating in the mean time. Since the character reveal for Secret Invasion didn't come with any context, it's difficult to predict why he's aged considerably since he was last spotted in the Spider-Man: Far From Home post-credits scene. There have been theories that this old version of Fury is actually a Skrull, while the real Fury's whereabouts are unknown. It's also possible that Secret Invasion's story is set further down the MCU's timeline, making it a much more recent entry in Marvel lore.
