Pokémon: Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl Players Get Stuck Behind NPCs

A glitch in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl has caused a player to get stuck behind NPCs in Veilstone City, forcing them to quit the game in lieu of other options. Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl released last week, and like most new titles, the games aren't free from bugs and glitches, many of which have been discovered by players and shared online.

It's common for games to release with bugs, whether they be game-breaking issues that tarnish the gameplay experience, or small, strange occurrences that are more of a curiosity than a problem. While many are patched out post-launch, not all bugs are unintentional, and some can even be a boon for players. Glitches that have been found in the latest Pokémon releases are no exception, with at least one player-discovered bug being beneficial. A glitch has been found that allows players access to the mythical Pokémon Shaymin without needing the Oak’s Letter item. This is similar to cheats used to access the flower path in the original Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, and whether included purposefully or not, the glitch harkens back to exploits used to obtain mythical Pokémon in 2006 Nintendo DS releases.

A glitch found by Reddit user MiseDawg has proven to be a huge hindrance to their Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl playthrough, causing them to quit the game after becoming stuck. MiseDawg reports that they were pushed by a Stunky into an area behind an NPC couple, trapping them and rendering them unable to escape. The user tried multiple strategies to escape this trap, such as getting knocked out in the Grand Underground, but that resulted in a full heal. They also couldn’t obtain a Pokémon with teleport to escape. Ultimately, they were forced to reset their save and start over, as all other options were exhausted.

While the occurrence doesn't seem to be too common, at least one other Redditor noted on the post that they'd come across the same Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl glitch. MiseDawg recommends players unlock the Union Room as soon as possible, and prepare a Pokémon with teleport in case a situation like this pops up in others' games. A key difference between the original Pokémon Diamond and Pearl and the BDSP remakes is that patches can be released much more efficiently than in the original DS games. MiseDawg has stated they planned to report the bug to Nintendo, which could mean a fix may soon be implemented via a patch.

Despite releasing less than a week ago, the latest Pokémon games have already received an official patch from Nintendo, with more likely on the way. The first update for the games, which came pre-launch, added a variety of improvements such as local communication for the Grand Underground, replacements for some placeholder music, and a Pokémon BDSP title screen. It's hoped more patches will soon fix MiseDawg's glitch to prevent other players also getting stuck.
