MultiVersus Is Set To Make Powerful Shaggy Meme WB Canon

MultiVersus is an upcoming platform fighting game developed by Warner Bros studio and inspired by Super Smash Bros, and it's looking like one fighter will be heavily influenced by a meme. Shaggy of Scooby Doo is just one of the fighters confirmed for the latest in a long line of platform fighting games released recently, but according to the trailer, he could possibly be the most powerful.

In 2o19, a slew of memes depicting Shaggy of the Scooby Doo shows and movies as some sort of omni powerful being filled the internet. Jokes included Shaggy using just 10% of his power to defeat the likes of Superman, Thanos, and Goku, or interviews with the cast of the live-action Scooby Doo movies making outlandish claims about Shaggy's actor, Matthew Lillard, or the character of Shaggy himself.

Shaggy is one of many confirmed characters in the MultiVersus trailer. He is shown in some sort of aura similar to the Dragon Ball franchise's Ultra Instinct or Super Saiyan transformation sequences. Many of the Powerful Shaggy memes have depicted Shaggy as having powers similar to Goku and other Saiyans, so it would appear that Warner Bros is taking heavy inspiration from them in regards to Shaggy's abilities and backstory in the game.

On MultiVersus' website, Shaggy's character description says that he gained incredible power when he found a glowing crystal, and that said power is also limitless. Other descriptions, particularly that of the game's original character, Reindog, describe a similar crystal, a dimensional cataclysm called The Change, and a force known as the Nothing, all of which appears to be what brought Cartoon Network characters, among others, to MultiVersus. Going off of this information, it would appear that the game will be more than just stages and battles, and have its own story for players to explore in addition to backstories for each fighter and how they came to find themselves in the world of MultiVersus. How Shaggy will fit into that story remains to be seen.

Although Shaggy may be portrayed as having incredible power in both the memes and the game, it doesn't necessarily mean that he'll have a greater role to play than any other fighter in whatever story MultiVersus has. The game is about fighters from a variety of sources coming together to combat the antagonists, which is likely the Nothing mentioned in some fighters' descriptions. Each one of them will likely have their own part to play, and Shaggy may be no different. An alternate costume may reveal part of his MultiVersus story. One of them is Shaggy in a karate gi with a beard and arm guards, which may indicate that he goes through some kind of training. Shaggy's description states that he only recently obtained his incredible meme-like powers, so he would presumably need to learn how to control them.

Shaggy's backstory in MultiVersus will likely be focused on the source of his new incredible powers, and his efforts to master them. Similar to the apparent inspiration for his powers, Dragon Ball, he may embark on a journey to train and hone his abilities until he can use them reliably in combat. Depending on where the powers came from, whether it's Reindog's gem or a different crystal, players could see Shaggy come to terms with some form of his destiny and how he fits into the story. Since it won't be revealed what the story is until the Smash Bros.-like game comes out, anything is possible. Shaggy's description says that finding the crystal was the last thing he remembered before The Change, so it's even possible that he unintentionally caused the dimensional cataclysm, which seems to be the start of MultiVersus' story.

According to Shaggy's description on the MultiVersus website, he is a Bruiser-type fighter with the special moves "ZOINKS!" and "Power Uppercut". Since other Bruiser fighters include the likes of Batman, Superman, Jake the Dog, and Garnet, it would appear that they're close-range melee fighters with a focus on power. They would likely be fairly straightforward and good fighters for newcomers to platform fighter games due to their simple approach to combat. Their attack power will likely be high, but their other stats could be average, however, it's not yet known what parameters the characters in Warner Bros.'s fighting game will be judged by. Shaggy's cowardly nature may mean that he has a higher speed than other Bruisers, or perks that allow him to escape from enemies or repel them.

Shaggy is shown to be powering himself up and fighting with an aura of some kind of power in the MultiVersus trailer, so it's likely that he will have some kind of ability that will allow him to temporarily increase his power and stats. Whether or not this will make him slower or inflict some other kind of penalty is as of yet unknown, but it would serve to balance the move and prevent players from using it constantly. It may also give him access to attacks he normally wouldn't be able to use, or transform his existing attacks into different and more powerful versions. His special move, "Power Uppercut", also seemingly makes an appearance when he's fighting against Game of Thrones' Arya Stark in MultiVersus' trailer, among others. He is shown making a powerful jump punch attack in addition to a charged-up forward punch, and after using both of them, his aura disappears. What the implications of this are are unknown, but it's possible that it means Shaggy will have a set amount of energy at his disposal and will have to recharge it before powering up again.

Aside from Shaggy's meme-like power aura, the trailer also shows him throwing sandwiches and delivering powerful punches and kicks. His moveset is impossible to predict at this point, but given his personality and voracious appetite, it's likely that it will involve a lot of food. Eating to recover health or some of his power, throwing a variety of food items, or swinging giant submarine sandwiches like baseball bats are just some of the possible moves that Shaggy could wield against the other fighters in MultiVersus. His signature snack food, Scooby Snax, makes an appearance after he powers up his aura, which could indicate that they will act as a throwable or consumable item for him to use in combat.
