Last of Us 2 Player Creates Haunting Abandoned School Cinematic

A player of The Last of Us Part 2 has created a haunting and immersive cinematic of the game’s Eastbrook Elementary. Eastbrook Elementary serves as one of the WLF's Seattle outposts in The Last of Us Part 2, and is where Ellie is briefly captured during her search of the derelict city.

2020's The Last of Us Part 2 has become one of the most talked-about games in recent history. On its release, its story polarized the gaming community due to its controversial character decisions, with the death of a beloved series hero being an issue for many players. However, its reception did nothing to stop The Last of Us Part 2 from receiving multiple Game of the Year awards. The critical praise for Naughty Dog’s post-apocalyptic epic means that The Last of Us Part 2 currently stands as the most awarded game in history, having knocked The Witcher 3 off the top spot. These awards cover every aspect of the game, from Laura Bailey's impassioned performance as TLOU 2's Abby to Best Visual Design. This is perhaps not surprising for fans, as many recognize The Last of Us Part 2 as having some most immersive and realistic locations seen in a video game to date.

One such location from The Last of Us Part 2 has now received its own special cinematic, thanks to content creator The Worlds of Gaming (via GameRant). This particular video is one of many from the creator's Abandoned Places of TLOU series, and shows off Eastbrook Elementary in a way that is not experienced during a standard playthrough of The Last of Us Part 2. While in the game Ellie is briefly held hostage in Eastbrook Elementary, making for a rather harrowing and gritty encounter, the fan video instead focuses on the oppressive beauty of the setting itself. Nature has truly taken over the school, and trees can be seen weaving their way through the many windows and over the remaining desks and chairs. The video is permeated with sounds from The Last of Us Part 2’s gameplay, although it never overpowers the haunting imagery. The video pans from the desolate hallways to the bloody corpses that will soon, just like the rest of the school, be overcome by nature.

The video truly highlights the essence of desperation in TLOU Part 2. This school was once an area that was full of hope and activity, as seen by the many posters and banners festooning its walls. However, it has now been left to succumb to the wrath of the world around it. As humanity has fallen into a state of decay and despair, the once strong structures have crumbled, signifying a devastating end to everything once normal and taken for granted.

While fans continue to celebrate the PS4 sequel with fan content, there is still no word on when exactly The Last of Us Part 2 will be receiving its standalone multiplayer spin-off. The most recent update from Naughty Dog on The Last of Us Day did assure fans that they will hear more about the game when it's ready, and that the studio is currently happy with what the team is developing. Hopefully, there won't be too much longer to wait until there's more news about The Last of Us Part 2’s future expansion, and how Naughty Dog plans to develop upon its dystopian world.
