Jeremy Renner tweeted out a new Hawkeye spot just as the Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer dropped. Renner is returning to the role of Clint Barton/Hawkeye in the Disney+ series, which debuts its first two episodes on November 24. Joining Renner is Hailee Steinfeld, who takes on the role of Kate Bishop, a fellow archer whom he takes under his wing while dealing with an "Avengers-level" threat during the holidays in New York City.
Also joining Hawkeye is Vera Farmiga as Bishop's mother, Eleanor, as well as Linda Cardellini, who is once again playing Barton's wife, Laura. Florence Pugh is making her first post-Black Widow appearance as Yelena Belova, while Alaqua Cox plays Maya Lopez (aka Echo), who is soon getting her own series on the streaming service. The series will consist of six episodes in total, clocking in at around 45 minutes.
While most of the online community was eagerly awaiting the new Spidey trailer, Renner had other plans. The actor shared a Tweet from Marvel Studios featuring a wrapping contest between himself and co-star Hailee Steinfeld, roughly four minutes after the Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer dropped, which suggests he had it planned all along. He retweeted with the keyword "Teamwork," which could have a double meaning. One, relating to the video itself with Renner and Steinfeld both wrapping presents together, or two, sharing a promo for Hawkeye, an MCU show, directly after the trailer debut of an MCU movie. Whether it be clever timing or happy coincidence, both videos are in keeping with the MCU spirit, so it feels like it's all in good promotional fun. Renner isn't just starring in Hawkeye this November, as his new show, The Mayor of Kingstown, just debuted on Paramount+ to solid ratings. The Taylor Sheridan-scripted thriller series stars Renner, Dianne Wiest, Aidan Gillen, and Kyle Chandler.
Renner has had a tremendous run as Hawkeye thus far and while the new series implies that he's passing the torch to another character, the actor still appears to be well up to task to continue to wield the bow and (trick) arrows. The main Avengers that took fans all the way through Avengers: Endgame have now all either been killed off or stepped into mentorship roles for the next generation of Marvel heroes, which is both inevitable and predictable. It's the one place where the MCU can't compete with the timeless and ageless medium of comics, as everyone in real life grows older, making the franchise something that must evolve or eventually reboot with new actors, which is always a possibility once it's all run its course. For now, however, the MCU shows no signs of slowing down, as based on this Hawkeye vs Spider-Man: No Way Home posting snafu suggests that even their own projects are competing with each other over promotional airtime.
