In 2022, Image Comics will unveil The Bone Orchard Mythos, a new, horror-themed shared universe, created by Jeff Lemire and Andrea Sorrentino. The line kicks off in June 2022 with The Passageway, a 100-page hardcover graphic novel by Lemire and Sorrentino; subsequent titles will be released in a variety of formats.
Jeff Lemire and Andrea Sorrentino are some of the most prolific and acclaimed creators working today. Lemire has worked for nearly every major comic publisher in North America; Andrea Sorrentino broke into the industry in the early 2010’s, working on titles such as I…Vampire. After first working together on a critically acclaimed run on Green Arrow in the New 52 era, Lemire and Sorrentino reunited for Gideon Falls, a mind-bending, horrific story, published by Image. Gideon Falls was a hit with fans and critics. Earlier this year, the duo began their follow-up, Primordial, a science fiction title also published by Image; Lemire and Sorrentino also produced Joker: Killer Smile for DC’s Black Label imprint. The creators are now taking their collaboration to the next level, creating an entire shared universe with Image Comics’ The Bone Orchard Mythos.
Jeff Lemire announced The Bone Orchard Mythos on Twitter, and an article appearing on The Beat offered further details on the first offerings. The aforementioned The Passageway is first out of the gate, followed in September 2022 by Ten Thousand Black Feathers, a mini-series. The third book, Tenement arrives in 2023 and Lemire has hinted that other books could be ongoing titles. Neither Lemire or The Beat offered any further information on the books, such as plot or characters. Lemire did stress that while all of The Bone Orchard Mythos books are set in the same universe, they will be self-contained and do not relate to any of Lemire or Sorrentino’s previous work.
Throughout books such as Gideon Falls and Killer Smile, Lemire and Sorrentino have proven themselves as one of the best creative teams working today. The Bone Orchard Mythos has the potential to be their best collaboration yet—not just a single title, but a fully fleshed-out world for readers to explore. Horror is the perfect vehicle for the duo as well—both have worked on some of the most memorable horror titles in recent memory; Gideon Falls was horrifying, and Sorrentino’s art brought it to life in all its glory. Likewise, Joker: Killer Smile was a descent into madness, a psychological horror tale befitting the Joker.
Jeff Lemire and Andrea Sorrentino have created some of the finest comics on the stands today and in 2022, they are preparing to bring fans what might be their masterpiece: The Bone Orchard Mythos from Image Comics.
