Halo Infinite Armor Core Guide: (What They Are & How They Work)

The Halo Infinite multiplayer is now available to play for free, giving players a chance to check out its new Armor Core system and customization. One of the features that Halo tends to get correct game after game is its unique armor system, which has included a growing library of armor seen in Halo games and in Halo's extended universe. Not all Spartans are like the Master Chief, who is recognized by the Mark VI armor donned time after time. In the series' most recent games, more Spartans are seen wearing a variety of armor types that are determined by what they specialize in.

Of course, the variety of armor available to players doesn't affect their Spartan's stats or anything of the sort, but many of them look fantastic and are great additions to the Halo series. 343 Industries has changed the way Halo Infinite allows players to earn new armor pieces, as well as how the pieces are categorized. These differences are represented by Halo Infinite's new Armor Core system, which separates Spartan armor by suits, and then into multiple options for each piece of armor.

After selecting the Armor Hall in Halo Infinite's customization menu, the first thing players are able to see is their Rare Armor Core, the Mark VII. Accessing the Mark VII reveals an array of armor customization options that fans will be familiar with, such as helmets, shoulders, chest, and visors. Each of these categories has more selections to choose from as well, but the part that has changed significantly is that these options are only available for the Mark VII Armor Core.

Halo Infinite's Armor Cores represent a collective of unlockable armor pieces that can only be equipped if players have the core they're associated with. For example, the only other available Armor Core at this time is the Mark V [B] armor that was originally featured in Halo: Reach. This armor was originally teased ahead of E3 for Halo Infinite, and is the centerpiece of the first season. Since this is a Halo: Reach-themed Armor Core, players have options to other armor sets from designs featured in Halo: Reach. However, these armor pieces are only available to the Mark V [B] Armor Core, and therefore cannot be equipped by players using the Mark VII.

One more Armor Core called Yoroi can be viewed in the Armor Hall, but it's locked behind the Fractures: Tenrai Event. Other pieces of armor are also locked in the Mark VII Armor Core, and some pieces only contain a description on how to unlock them that reads, "Stay tuned for more details." Most of the armor, however, can be unlocked by reaching certain levels in Halo Infinite's battle pass. It's likely that the "more details" and additional Armor Cores will be released when Halo Infinite's campaign releases. For now the armor systems is limited to the designs of Halo: Reach, and a few new ones were introduced alongside Halo Infinite's battle pass.
