Guardians Of The Galaxy: The 10 Best Characters, Ranked By Power

While at first glance the Guardians of the Galaxy seem like a group of relatively normal people (or at least as normal as a group of aliens can be), in reality, the Guardians are some of the most powerful characters in the MCU.

Whether it be cybernetic enhancements, extreme combat training, or simply being born as one of the first and most powerful beings in the Galaxy, the Guardians of the Galaxy Movies' power levels are off the charts. Despite appearing in the movies, characters like Thanos and some other Celestials' extreme power will not be considered as they are not primary characters in the franchise.

10 Drax the Destroyer

Drax's power comes from not only his alien strength and durability but from his all-consuming desire to avenge his family after they were killed by Thanos. This drive for revenge has caused Drax to make some bad decisions, like charging at Thanos and being immediately turned into cubes when they found him on Knowhere, but also gives him an intense drive to never stop pursuing revenge. While Drax does tend to be comic relief, he is an extremely competent fighter, especially when it comes to the dual knives he wields.

9 Groot

While Groot isn't the most verbose of characters in the MCU, he is still a fan favorite with some very powerful abilities. Groot has the ability to grow his arms into vines that are incredibly strong, throwing around his enemies like they weigh nothing.

He can use this to create shields, stab through enemies, or even a full sphere that protected the remaining Guardians from a spaceship crash. He also has extreme regenerative abilities, from growing his arm back after using it to create the handle to Thor's hammer Stormbreaker, to growing an entirely new body after his sacrifice to save the rest of the Guardians.

8 Rocket Racoon

Despite his appearance as a typical raccoon from Earth, Rocket Racoon is surprisingly powerful due to his extensive cybernetic enhancements. Rocket has a cybernetically enhanced cerebral cortex, allowing him to not only communicate, but plan prison escapes, pilot his various spaceships very effectively, and use any weapon that comes his way. He has a cybernetically enhanced skeleton, allowing him to survive massive hits, including the entire Avengers compound landing on him after Thanos destroyed it. This also makes him more dexterous, allowing him to sneak, dodge, and jump around in combat situations. Rocket's cybernetic enhancements plus his expert combat abilities make him a tough fight for anyone on this list.

7 Ronan the Accuser

The strongest Kree we have seen in the MCU (unless fans count Captain Marvel), Ronan the Accuser is a powerful zealot with an intense hatred for the Skrulls and the Nova Empire. He worked for Thanos for years searching for the Orb, the device that held the Power Stone. While Ronan is powerful on his own, what really earns him a place on this list is his betrayal of Thanos and his use of the Power Stone. Not many mortal creatures can withstand the power of an Infinity Stone, but not only was Ronan able to withstand direct contact with the Power Stone, but he was able to put it in his hammer, known as the Cosmi-Rod, and use it to easily defeat the Guardians. If it wasn't for Quill's distracting dance-off, Ronan may have become a serious problem in the MCU.

6 Yondu Udonta

Yondu Udonta might not seem incredibly powerful at first glance, but his total mastery over the use of his arrow, known as a Yaka Arrow, puts him solidly in this list of powerful characters. The Yaka Arrow is an extremely fast, armor-piercing, anti-gravity arrow that Yondu controls with a combination of his cybernetically implanted headpiece and his whistles. Yondu exercises complete control over the arrow, using it like a dagger at the throat of Peter Quill, or using it to take out an entire ship-full of ravagers, all by simply whistling. If it wasn't for his tragic sacrifice in the fight against Ego, Yondu would have made a great ally in the fight against Thanos. The Yaka Arrow is one of the single most powerful weapons in the MCU and earns Yondu his place on this list.

5 Nebula

Daughter of Thanos and sister of Gamora, Nebula may have the strongest cybernetics in the MCU. Nebula was cybernetically enhanced by Thanos every time she lost to Gamora in one of their training matches and despite the trauma this caused her, it also made her extremely powerful. Her cybernetics make her more powerful than any standard human being, with superhuman strength, durability, speed, and dexterity. She easily survived the trip back from Titan that almost killed Tony Stark, and has sustained immense damage from being shot, stabbed, electrocuted, tortured, and even a blow from the infinity gauntlet. She can regenerate from wounds extremely quickly and has become a master assassin after years of training with Thanos, making her one of the strongest characters in the Guardians franchise.

4 Gamora

Another Daughter of Thanos, Gamora's alien physiology and biological enhancements make her "the Fiercest Woman in the Galaxy." Gamora is extremely strong, throwing her enemies across the battlefield with relative ease.

She can survive massive damage with relative ease, with the notable exception of being thrown off of a cliff by Thanos. Her bionic enhancements include toxin filtering livers, nanomachines in her blood, and enhanced eyesight. All of this combined with her master-level swordsmanship and combat skills make her one of the strongest Guardians of the Galaxy.

3 Mantis

Mantis is one of the strongest Guardians of the Galaxy due to her empathic abilities. She is able to not only feel other people's emotions but manipulate them entirely. While her combat abilities are not as strong as many of the other guardians, she is still a competent fighter. When you combine this with her ability to manipulate emotions and her ability to put people to sleep, she becomes one of the biggest threats the guardians have. Mantis was the center of the plan to get the Infinity Gauntlet away from Thanos, and if it wasn't for Quill's emotional breakdown, Thanos may have been stopped before he snapped half the universe away. Even though she has some very funny moments, she is still one of the most powerful Guardians.

2 Peter Quill/ Star-Lord

While Peter Quill isn't as powerful as he once was after the death of his father, nor as powerful as some of his Marvel comics variants, if you consider all of the powers he has ever had, Star-Lord is by far the most powerful Guardian. His half-celestial nature not only gave him near-infinite durability, allowing him to hold the Power Stone in the palm of his hand, but it also gave him the ability to manipulate light into physical objects, allowed him to create weapons like a giant Pac-Man out of thin air, and made him functionally immortal as long as Ego still lived. While Quill has since lost these powers, if taken him at his peak power, no other Guardian of the Galaxy would stand a chance against him.

1 Ego

Ego is not only the strongest character in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, he is one of the most powerful characters in the MCU so far. While not exactly the same as the comics version, he is still very powerful. He is an immortal Celestial, having existed since nearly the beginning of time. He has total control over light, able to manipulate it not only into tentacle-like weapons but also a humanoid body for himself. He can manipulate people's minds, create biological life, and manipulate matter at the molecular level. He also exists as an entire planet, only able to be killed if the "brain" at the core of the planet is destroyed. It took the entirety of the Guardians and Quill at his full power to barely manage to defeat him. If any of these characters tried to fight Ego on their own, it wouldn't even be close.
