Dynamite Pays Tribute To Todd McFarlane's Classic Spider-Man Cover

Comic book company Dynamite Entertainment is paying tribute to Todd McFarlane’s most iconic Spider-Man cover for three of their titles. Dynamite Entertainment has brought countless exciting books to fans including The Boys, Red Sonja, and A Game of Thrones. Now, the publisher is paying homage to Todd McFarlane’s iconic work with a perfect tribute to the artist.

Amazing Spider-Man #300 by David Michelinie and Todd McFarlane not only gives fans an iconic comic book cover, but also the origin of a fan favorite villain turned antihero that has since made the jump to full-blown hero. Venom makes his first appearance in the issue as Spider-Man abandons the symbiote suit which then merges with Eddie Brock. While Spider-Man defeated the then newly introduced villain in that same issue, fans have learned that his containment wouldn’t last long, sparking stories that would last decades and eventually leading to Venom saving the world and defeating the King in Black

Amazing Spider-Man #300 resonated with fans like few books have done before it, including the artist behind the new covers from Dynamite paying homage to McFarlane, Jamie Biggs. “I had been out of comics for quite a few years and while figure hunting at a Walmart, I saw various multiple issue comic collections polybagged at the end of the action figure aisle. The five-issue run of McFarlane’s ‘Torment’ really grabbed my attention with that iconic first cover.” Biggs said in an interview released by Dynamite Entertainment, “those dynamic poses and all that detail blew my 14 to 15 year old mind! I fell back in love with comics that day thanks to Todd McFarlane’s work.”

Jamie Biggs will now work that McFarlane magic on three separate titles for Dynamite Entertainment. Evil Ernie #1, Nyx #2, and Red Sonja #4 will be getting the royal treatment honoring Amazing Spider-Man #300. The cover featuring Evil Ernie will be on Final Order Cutoff the weekend of November 13 and 14, according to Dynamite Entertainment. The cover is available for fans and retailers to order now while the other two titles will be available to order soon, with a date not yet set by the publisher.

With the release of Biggs’ very own version of Todd McFarlane’s original Spider-Man artwork, the Dynamite artist can pass on the love of comics that he felt as a child to the next kid on the fence about reading comics. While Todd McFarlane had nothing to do with the upcoming Dynamite releases directly, his previous, iconic work has fueled creativity and passion in both artists and fans that has carried on for decades and will continue to carry on for decades to come. Dynamite Entertainment pays homage to Todd McFarlane’s classic Spider-Man cover with a perfect three-title tribute.
