Dune (2021): 10 Upcoming Projects Featuring The Cast | ScreenRant

Denis Villeneuve’s Dune was certainly a risky gamble, but it helped that he cast some of the biggest stars working today in every role. Dune’s cast includes such recognizable actors as Oscar Isaac and Jason Momoa, as well as a trio of Marvel stars – Zendaya, Dave Bautista, and Josh Brolin – and a handful of unmistakable veteran actors like Stellan Skarsgård and Stephen McKinley Henderson.

Since the cast of Dune contains some of the most sought-after actors in Hollywood, they all have plenty of upcoming projects on the horizon to get excited about.

10 Timothée Chalamet - Wonka (March 17, 2023)

After marking his blockbuster debut with the role of Paul Atreides in Dune, Timothée Chalamet is jumping over to another franchise to play a very different character: chocolatier Willy Wonka. Wonka is a musical prequel to Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory that will chart Wonka’s early career.

Chalamet will star alongside actors like Keegan-Michael Key, Sally Hawkins, Rowan Atkinson, and Olivia Colman, and the movie is being directed by Paddington’s Paul King, so there is hope for this seemingly unnecessary prequel.

9 Zendaya - Spider-Man: No Way Home (December 17, 2021)

With the recent release of Eternals, the next movie on Marvel’s docket is Spider-Man: No Way Home. After appearing in a few minutes’ worth of dream sequences as Paul’s love interest Chani in Dune, Zendaya will have a much larger role as Spidey’s love interest MJ in No Way Home.

The highly anticipated Spider-Man threequel, which will plunge the beloved webslinger into the Marvel multiverse when he tries to change history, is set to arrive in theaters on December 17.

8 Oscar Isaac - Moon Knight (2022)

After playing Duke Leto Atreides in Dune, Oscar Isaac is set to play the title character in the MCU’s Moon Knight series on Disney+. As a brooding street-level antihero, Moon Knight is essentially Marvel’s answer to Batman. But there are plenty of things that make him unique, too: he’s imbued with the powers of an Egyptian god and he adopts a taxi driver persona to get the inside track on the criminal underworld.

Ethan Hawke has been cast in a supporting role alongside Isaac. Jeremy Slater, who successfully adapted The Exorcist for the small screen, will serve as the head writer for the series, which will consist of six episodes and is scheduled to air in 2022.

7 Rebecca Ferguson - Mission: Impossible 7 (September 30, 2022)

Rebecca Ferguson is following up her co-lead performance as Lady Jessica in Dune by returning to the Mission: Impossible franchise as secret agent Ilsa Faust opposite Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt, Ving Rhames as Luther Stickell, and Simon Pegg as Benji Dunn. Hayley Atwell is joining the cast this time, too.

Ferguson is set to reprise her role as Ilsa in both Mission: Impossible 7 and Mission: Impossible 8, which Paramount announced simultaneously. Following various COVID-related delays, Mission: Impossible 7 is scheduled for September 30, 2022, and Mission: Impossible 8 is scheduled for July 7, 2023.

6 Javier Bardem - The Little Mermaid (May 26, 2023)

Javier Bardem gives a small but scene-stealing turn in Dune as Stilgar, leader of the Fremen tribe. Based on the cliffhanger ending, he’s primed for a much larger role in the sequel. In the meantime, he’ll appear in The Little Mermaid, yet another live-action remake of a Disney animated classic.

This one is bolstered by some pretty impressive casting: Bardem as King Triton, Halle Bailey as Ariel, Melissa McCarthy as Ursula, Jacob Tremblay as Flounder, Awkwafina as Scuttle, and Daveed Diggs as Sebastian. It’s set to be released on May 26, 2023.

5 Stellan Skarsgård - Andor (2022)

Stellan Skarsgård commanded the big screen as the villainous Baron Vladimir Harkonnen in Dune, but his next project is being produced for the small screen. Set for release on Disney+ in 2022, Andor is a Star Wars streaming series spun off from Rogue One.

Skarsgård will star alongside Diego Luna, who’s reprising his Rogue One role as Rebel spy Cassian Andor. They’ll be joined by a few returning Star Wars actors, like Genevieve O’Reilly as Mon Mothma and Forest Whitaker as Saw Gerrera.

4 Stephen McKinley Henderson - Disappointment Blvd. (TBD)

Veteran actor Stephen McKinley Henderson, who played Mentat Thufir Hawat in Dune, will next be seen in Disappointment Blvd., Ari Aster’s follow-up to Midsommar. According to Den of Geek, the film has been described as a four-hour “nightmare comedy.” It’s a decades-spanning chronicle of an entrepreneur.

Joaquin Phoenix is playing the lead role, but he’s backed up by a huge supporting cast including Henderson, Nathan Lane, Meryl Streep, Michael Gandolfini, Parker Posey, and Richard Kind. As of yet, the movie has no release date.

3 Jason Momoa - Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom (December 16, 2022)

After playing badass warrior Duncan Idaho in Dune, Jason Momoa is returning to the murky depths of the DCEU. After 2018’s Aquaman became the highest-grossing DC Comics-based movie of all time (only Jason Momoa could make Aquaman bigger than Batman and Superman), Warner Bros. wasted no time greenlighting a sequel.

Director James Wan is back for the sequel, titled Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, set for release on December 16, 2022. As teased by the first movie’s credits scene, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II’s Black Manta will take center stage as the main villain.

2 Dave Bautista - Knives Out 2 (TBD)

Dave Bautista had a relatively small role in Dune as “Beast” Glossu Rabban, one of House Harkonnen’s top enforcers, but he was memorable nonetheless. The actor will be reprising his Marvel role as Drax in Thor: Love and Thunder and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, but he’s also been added to the star-studded ensemble cast of the Knives Out sequel being distributed by Netflix.

Daniel Craig will return as Detective Benoit Blanc to solve another mystery, supported by Bautista, Edward Norton, Kathryn Hahn, Leslie Odom, Jr., and Kate Hudson, among many others. Rian Johnson is writing and directing the sequel, which still has no release date or official title.

1 Most Of Them - Dune: Part Two (October 20, 2023)

Warner Bros. was understandably reluctant to commit to shooting a two-part Dune movie back-to-back, but as soon as Denis Villeneuve’s vision cashed in at the worldwide box office, the studio was quick to greenlight a sequel finishing the adaptation of the novel.

Although the actors whose characters died in the first Dune movie probably won’t be back in the second one, the rest will be seen in Dune: Part Two when it hits theaters on October 20, 2023.
