Captain Marvel Is Ready To Go To War With Iron Man (Again)

Warning: contains spoilers for Avengers Tech-On #4!

Not so long ago during Marvel's Civil War II event, Captain Marvel and Iron Man were bitter rivals and came to blows. While the two eventually made peace and resumed fighting on the Avengers together, recent events in Avengers Tech-On #4 suggest that animosity still exists between the two heroes. Tony Stark, gripped with paranoia, has resorted to the tactics of Batman: spying on his teammates.

In the Avengers Tech-On series, Thanos has been defeated and the Infinity Stones successfully destroyed by the Avengers. During a celebration, the Red Skull emerges, having collected the detritus of the Stones; calling them Infinity Mirror Shards (IMS), the Skull turns civilians into his personal army and with a snap of his fingers, removes the powers of every superhero on the planet (including mutants of the X-Men, the Inhumans, and the Avengers). To combat the threat of the Red Skull and his new army, Iron Man builds armored suits for the entire team - and they're powered by IMS energy too.

Unfortunately, Iron Man neglects to tell his team the potentially harmful effects of using too much IMS energy at once. Deadly consequences will occur if the armor's super-mode is engaged for longer than ten minutes - but Stark is the only one who knows this. Thus, Captain Marvel brings Captain America to a crowded city center in Japan to avoid being recorded by Tony. While she's appreciative of everything Iron Man has done for the team, "...the list of things he's not telling us keeps getting longer." Captain Marvel then gives Steve a word of advice...or a word of warning: he needs to take control of the team from Tony before he begins making truly dangerous decisions.

Unfortunately, immediately after this exchange, Captain Marvel and Captain America receive a call from Tony; the Red Skull is preparing for another attack. When Carol responds that the two aren't at the Avengers compound, Stark responds "I know exactly where you are." Carol surmises that Tony was spying on his teammates from the world go, and is naturally angry and upset; even after all that's happened, Tony still doesn't trust his fellow Avengers.

As someone who can easily rip Iron Man's armor in half with her bare hands, Captain Marvel is one of Iron Man's deadliest opponents - but the two heroes don't necessarily need to fight on opposite sides. The subsequent Red Skull attack in Avengers Tech-On #4 means Carol Danvers had no time to confront Stark about his suspicious behavior towards his teammates. But in future issues, Iron Man will have to deal with Captain Marvel's wrath, one way or another.
