Bernie Sanders Becomes A DC Supervillain in Hilarious Resurfaced Art

During President Joe Biden’s inauguration, the American people got more than a new president, they also got a fire meme that took the United States and even the world by storm, one that was derived from a candid photo of U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders. The meme reached peak popularity near the beginning of 2021 right after the inauguration, and now a version of it has resurfaced in hilarious fan art that merges the photo of Sanders with a DC Comics supervillain.

A photo was taken of 2020 presidential candidate and senator of Vermont Bernie Sanders braving the chilly January weather in Washington, DC at the inauguration and it quickly began circulating around the internet. The picture was of Sanders sitting down wrapped in a green jacket and wearing mittens as well as a face mask. Once it surfaced, the people of the internet quickly began photoshopping Sanders into ridiculous situations, including the senator sitting on the Iron Throne from Game of Thrones and even as Baby Yoda sitting in his floating pod from The Mandalorian, just to name a few. Now, Sanders is seemingly ready to take over the DC Universe in the latest situation his likeness has found itself in.

In a Twitter post from Dan Schkade, the artist reveals a picture he drew featuring Bernie Sanders in the now famous pose sitting in the Mobius Chair, which is usually occupied by the DC Comics villain Metron. The picture looks as though Sanders is not only sitting in the villain’s chair, but is ready to take on his power-hungry mission of universal supremacy. Schkade recently re-posted the image, which was originally created in January, noting that the comical piece of art is most likely hit most popular work.

The cosmic entity Metron, the DC Comics supervillain Sanders is taking the place of in this spoof fan art, is a New God of New Genesis who travels the cosmos with the aid of the universal-traveling vehicle, the Mobius Chair. Metron was created by Jack Kirby along with the King of Comics’ other New Gods characters and made his first full appearance as fans know him today in New Gods: Godhead #1. While Metron is usually depicted as a non-affiliated scientist, mostly observing the wider universe, he has participated in invasions of Earth in an effort to implement the Anti-Life Equation and further the reach of the New Gods.

Fans of both DC Comics and of the widely popular "Bernie On A Chair" meme have no way of knowing the motivations of this fan-made Berntron, whether they be cosmic villainy or otherwise. Regardless of the potential storyline behind the picture of Bernie Sanders as this DC Comics supervillain, it is a fantastic addition to the internet fad that people just can’t seem to get enough of.
