Batman's Most Disgusting Enemy Just Proved It's Stronger Than Ever

Warning! Spoilers for Detective Comics #1045

The most disgusting enemy that Batman has ever encountered is proving its strength in an upcoming comic. Known as “the Vile,” the parasitic monster is unlike anything the Dark Knight has faced before.

Throughout Batman’s crimefighting career, he has taken on a handful of disgusting villains including Clayface and Solomon Grundy. However, the recently introduced Vile parasites might outrank them in terms of its grossness. Similar to Killer Croc, the creatures come from beneath the city in the sewers. According to an upcoming comic, they seem to be even more dangerous than the Dark Knight’s typical foe.

As revealed in a preview by AIPT Comics, Detective Comics #1045 features the Vile parasites which originate from the Gotham City sewers, and have come to take on Batman. Detective Comics is approaching monster movie territory when citizens run into the parasite they assume is harmless at first. It isn’t long before they realize how wrong they are, and the Vile becomes a powerful threat to the city. After escaping from the sewers alongside Mayor Nakano, Batman must stop the parasites’ invasion. As a part of Fear State, the storyline is said to have an impact on the subsequent comics event focused on the caped crusader. The issue is written by Mariko Tamaki and Stephanie Phillips with art by Dan Mora and David Lapham. Detective Comics #1045 releases on Tuesday, November 23.

The Vile somewhat resembles Poison Ivy’s sentient plant creatures, as it wraps its tentacles around Batman on the cover. Detective Comics appears to be going in a slightly different direction with the parasites’ invasion, as the bat family unites to save the city. While Batman is attempting to get the mayor to a safe location, the Vile is spreading and wreaking havoc. The parasites are depicted seeping through the sidewalks, posing danger to pedestrians. Even cyclists aren’t safe from its spread. The Vile certainly doesn’t appear to be the brand of villain that goes down quietly in Arkham Asylum.

Unlike Batman’s usual rogues, there is no psychological angle for him to approach. Instead, the bat family must rely on purely psychical means to prevent the impending invasion. However, with the growing threat, it seems impossible to contain the oozing red parasite. As Batman is determined to save the mayor, Nightwing and Batgirl are patrolling the city. It might come down to the two of them to bring an end to Batman’s most disgusting enemy yet.
