What Elden Ring's Release Date Is After Delay | Screen Rant

Elden Ring, the next title from development company FromSoftware, has been delayed from its original projected release date. Initially set to release in January 2022, new information confirms that the game will require another month before it will be ready to release. However, Elden Ring's new release date has already been confirmed, as well as other information leading up to its launch.

Elden Ring's month-long delay seems short given the game's lengthy development time. Originally announced at E3 2019, little news was shared about the title until Elden Ring's first official trailer premiered at Summer Games Fest 2021. While many new and exciting features of the game were finally shared publicly, some of those features seem to have contributed to the game's delayed release.

Elden Ring's new projected release date is February 25, 2022, roughly one month later than its original expected release. This information comes from the official Twitter account for Elden Ring, which on October 18 explained the change in release. In the message, the team behind Elden Ring thanked fans for their continued patience, claiming that it was "the depth & strategic freedom" of the game that had prompted the delay, having "exceeded initial expectations." This is seemingly in regards to how Elden Ring's open-world map areas can be explored in any order players choose, as well as how the game will offer players a massive world and a variety of combat options. Given all this, it seems reasonable that Elden Ring's developers would extend the game's development by another month to make sure these numerous options were implemented properly.

Despite the game's full release being delayed a month, a Closed Network Test for Elden Ring will be conducted in November 2021. Alongside the game's new release date, the Twitter post made by the Elden Ring developers also mentioned that the team would look forward to players' experiences with testing a small portion of the game prior to launch. Elden Ring's Closed Network Test will take place from November 12 - 14, and it will be available for selected testers to play on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. More than likely, the information gathered from users will be considered during the game's extra month of development time, allowing for a more polished version of the game on release that's based on player feedback.

Though it is being delayed to February 2022, Elden Ring promises to be a grandiose new entry in FromSoftware's catalog of games. Co-written by Hidetaka Miyazaki and George R.R Martin of Dark Souls and Game of Thrones fame respectively, the game will offer players an expansive new world to explore when it finally does release.
