Tom Holland, Tobey Maguire, and Andrew Garfield got an Avengers: Endgame-style send-off in a new fan-made video for Spider-Man: No Way Home. With only two months left until the Jon Watts-directed MCU film hits theaters, anticipation is building for the threequel. Recently, Holland commented that No Way Home was being "treated as" an end to the Homecoming triology and his Spider-Man franchise, leading many eager viewers to speculate about what's next for the young actor's version of Spider-Man.
Marketing for No Way Home started fairly late. It wasn't until the end of August that the highly-anticipated first trailer for the movie was released, and the video quickly became the most-watched clip in a 24-hour period. Since then, very little has been revealed about the movie. In fact, some cinemas around the world have used fan-made posters to advertise the film, since Marvel Studios and Sony have yet to drop an official No Way Home one-sheet. Nevertheless, the blockbuster's premise is quite clear. It picks up after the events of Spider-Man: Far From Home, with Peter Parker finding himself in a difficult situation after his secret superhero identity is publicly revealed. He reaches out to Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) for help, but instead of making things better, the sorcerer's actions seem to make things much worse, opening up the possibility of various multiversal threats.
Rumors also remain persistent about Maguire and Garfield appearing in No Way Home in the form of their respective Spider-Men, and now one fan has taken it into their own hands to make that so. A new video from the YouTube channel Coastal House Media gives the film an Avengers: Endgame-style credits tribute, in light of Holland's comments about the threequel supposedly marking the end of a franchise. The clip features Holland, Maguire and Garfield in costume as the web-slinging hero, paired with a score and image style that evokes the end-credits of the finale to the Infinity Saga. Holland's remarks about No Way Home marking the end of the Spider-Man franchise can be interpreted in various ways. Firstly, he could be referring solely to MCU's Homecoming trilogy, which makes sense considering the recently amended Marvel Studios/Sony deal. According to the agreement, the upcoming flick would be the final solo Spider-Man film under the collaboration. This doesn't mean, however, that the studios can't extend this partnership, which is likely, considering how financially successful the films have proved to be. What's more, Holland is set to appear in one more MCU ensemble film, but there is currently no word on what project that would be. Secondly, the actor may also be referring to the franchise as a whole. If it's indeed true that Maguire and Garfield are in the threequel, then it could be an Endgame-like culminating narrative. Finally, it's also possible that there's simply no future Spider-Man solo film plans thus far, hence why Holland and the cast treated it as their final hurrah.
All that being said, it's difficult to believe that Spider-Man: No Way Home will actually be the permanent end of the Spider-Man franchise. The character is far too popular to be sidelined, even after a string of previous iterations. Marvel Studios and Sony deciding to market the blockbuster so late in the game is an indication that the companies are certain of strong attendance in theaters from fans. Like Avengers: Endgame, the film could mark the end of an era, but it's doubtful that it would truly be the end for these iconic characters.
