Scream 2022's David Arquette Says Original Movie Fans Will Love The Sequel

Scream 2022 star David Arquette says that fans of the original movies will love the new installment. The original Scream was released in 1996, with three subsequent movies released between 1997 and 2011 following its success. The first movie is considered somewhat of a cult classic due to its unique take on the horror genre, paired with its ability to subvert audience expectations by taking some of the more commonly used horror tropes and turning them on their heads, while still creating an all-around scary movie.

2022's Scream is the fifth installment in the hit franchise and will see the return of some of the 1996 movie's key characters, Neve Campbell will return as the iconic final girl, Sidney Prescott, while Courteney Cox will return as Gale Weathers. Also returning to the town of Woodsboro is David Arquette, to reprise his role as Dewey. The movie also welcomes a whole host of newcomers to the cast, including Jack Quaid, Jenny Ortega, Melissa Barrera, and Dylan Minnette. Few plot details have been released at this time, but audiences can of course expect to see the return of the ruthless killer, Ghostface, who is back to terrify and torment the people of Woodsboro.

Now, Arquette has said that he thinks fans of the original movies are in for a real treat. Speaking to IGN, Arquette said that he believes Scream 2022 is a "fan's movie" and says it will "take you back to the feeling you had when you saw the first one". The actor also revealed that he enjoyed working with the newcomers and commented on their talents within the film. Check out Arquette's full quote below.

I think the whole world of storytelling has gotten smarter, people have a real deep love of history like this film has. It will take you back to the feeling you had when you saw the first one. At least it's doing that for me. Because you want to respect the world that Wes [Craven] created with [writer] Kevin Williamson and be able to expand on it with this new generation. Jenna [Ortega] and Melissa [Barrera] are tremendous actors. Jack Quaid - I knew him as a little kid, just running around, and now he's this young man who's super talented and witty. There are so many talented young people on this film. I love watching them watch horror films and doing their homework on the genres. I think the fans are really going to love this because it's a fan's movie.

Arquette also stated that despite the fact the film has a number of new cast members, it still as felt as though they were "in the same world" while making the film. The first trailer for Scream 2022 was officially released this week, giving fans a glimpse of Campbell, Cox, and Arquette, back in their iconic roles. As well as providing a look at the newcomers and how their characters will fit into the Scream lore. The trailer also contained a number of easter eggs and callbacks to the previous films, also hinting that there will be a new set of rules to survive this time around.

Anticipation for Scream 2022 is certainly amping up as audiences approach the final few months of waiting before Ghostface's new identity is revealed. Arquette's confirmation that the movie was made with the fans in mind will be welcome news for many who were unsure what this fifth installment might bring to the franchise and whether it will hold up to the classic status that the original has earned. With Halloween just around the corner, it will be interesting to see what further details will be revealed in the run-up to the release of Scream.
