New Eternals Footage Shows Angelina Jolie & Don Lee Fighting Deviants

New footage from Marvel's Eternals shows Angelina Jolie's Thena and Don Lee's Gilgamesh fighting off Deviants. Directed by ChloƩ Zhao, Eternals is the first-ever live-action incarnation of the cosmic Marvel superhero team, which stars Jolie, Lee, Richard Madden, Gemma Chan, Salma Hayek, Kumail Nanjiani, Bryan Tyree Henry, Lia McHugh, Lauren Ridloff, and Barry Keoghan. Game of Thrones' Kit Harington also joins the film as Dane Whitman, a character who eventually becomes the superhero known as Black Knight in the original comics.

The Eternals are a group of heroes created by the Celestials, a race of god-like beings said to have been around since the dawn of creation, who send the Eternals to Earth to help guide and protect humanity. However, when their rivals, the Deviants, reappear, the Eternals must reunite again to defend the world. The film is the third entry in Marvel's Phase Four, which is set to open up the MCU in a way that has yet to be explored.

Marvel has now released a new Korean trailer for Eternals that shows the heroes in action, particularly Angelina Jolie's Thena and Don Lee's Gilgamesh. Both Eternals utilize their unique abilities to battle a band of Deviants, which are also seen in some new footage from the film. The footage also gives a glimpse at the Eternals team approaching Earth from space, and most of the fighting appears to take place long ago in Babylon. The film is said to be set at various points in time over a period of 7,000 years, which tracks the everlasting impact of the Eternals' time on the planet. Take a look at the trailer below:

This is the first superhero role for Jolie, who has dabbled in the comic book genre before, playing the character of Fox in the adaptation of Mark Millar's Wanted, as well as being the first to portray Lara Croft: Tomb Raider in a live-action film. She has also starred in two films featuring the Disney villainess Maleficent, as well as Tigress in the Kung-Fu Panda series. Jolie recently starred in the action thriller Those Who Wish Me Dead from director Taylor Sheridan, and will next star in Every Note Played with Christoph Waltz.

The new Eternals footage peels back another layer on the depth of the Marvel heroes. It reveals their arrival to Earth, and continues to showcase their battles from centuries ago, creating an epic scope to the ambitious film. While the MCU hasn't strayed from exploring multiple universes, be it outer space, the microverse, time travel, and soon the multiverse, the depths of Eternals appears to go much further than audiences have seen before. This should not only help to expand the franchise, but also give fans something new and exciting to see realized. If nothing else, it provides another landscape and sub-genre for the MCU to play in.
