Mystique Caught Mid-Transformation in an All-Time Best X-Men Cosplay

There have been some fantastic cosplays of comic book heroes and villains over the years, but few top Juliet Chevelle's mid-transformation Mystique from 2019. The cosplayer originally debuted the look at the 2019 San Diego Comic-Con, as the look reimagines an iconic scene from the 2014 film X-Men: Days of Future Past, but with a twist. The look shows Mystique mid-transformation, showing both sides of the fiery villain. It's amazingly creative and is one of the best cosplays ever.

Mystique, aka Raven Darkhölme, is one of the most iconic X-Men villains ever, who has been both an adversary and enemy of the famous group of mutant heroes. Mystique can transform her body into whoever she wants to look and sound like, no matter the sex or appearance of those she takes after. It makes her quite valuable, as she routinely tricks people into believing she's someone else when in disguise. Mystique has been adapted to the big screen twice: first, in the original X-Men live-action trilogy, where Rebecca Romijn played her. Next, she was played by Jennifer Lawrence in four films of the most recent X-Men tetralogy.

Back in 2019, cosplayer Juliet Chevelle showed off her take on Mystique, which is inspired a single transformation of Lawrence's Mystique from X-Men: Days of Future Past. The cosplay comes from a scene where Mystique pretends to be an army officer to help her fellow mutants escape from being detained by the U.S. Army. In Chevelle's look, she shows off Mystique changing her look into a U.S. Army officer, but the cosplay reveals both sides of the transformation.

It's hard to put into words how well Chevelle's cosplay creatively brings Mystique's powers to life. First of all, the idea and execution are fabulous. The costumes stitching, the matching face-paint and costume, and the way Chevelle chose the perspective of Mystique's body change are genius. Everything from the wig, to the details, is spot-on. It's really a snapshot of the beauty of Mystique's transformations. The look captures the villain's abilities wonderfully.

On her Instagram, Chevelle shows off a few more snapshots of the look, including a full-body perspective showing the hard work that went into pulling off the incredible cosplay. While the cosplay might have been difficult to pull off, Chevelle absolutely nailed the look and brought Mystique's transformation to life with a wildly creative ensemble. The Mystique look belongs in some sort of cosplay hall of fame, it's that good.
