Lightyear Trailer: Toy Story Movie Reveals Origins Of To Infinity & Beyond

Disney and Pixar unveil the first teaser trailer for Lightyear offering the first look at the Chris Evans-starring Toy Story origin story. Led by the Knives Out star, the film will introduce audiences to what's being described as "the definitive origin story" of Buzz Lightyear and his early days as a Space Ranger in Star Command. The film hails from veteran Pixar animator Angus MacLane, who previously served as a co-director on 2016's Finding Dory.

Buzz Lightyear was memorably first brought to life in the original 1995 Toy Story with Tim Allen voicing the action figure who believed himself to be a real Space Ranger. After the success of the first two films, a spin-off TV series was released seeing the character as an actual hero of Space Command with Patrick Warburton voicing Buzz over Allen. Development on Lightyear was first announced at last year's Disney Investor Day with an image of the character and the reveal of Evans as the titular hero and now fans have a bigger reason to get excited for the film.

With less than a year to go until the film's arrival, Disney and Pixar have released the first teaser trailer for Lightyear. Set to the tune of David Bowie's "Starman," the video offers the proper first look at the Toy Story origin story of the titular space traveller and a tease of Evans' voice as Buzz. The first look at Lightyear should come as a very promising one for longtime fans of the Toy Story franchise as well as an interesting one. While Pixar has certainly not strayed from more serious territory throughout their reign on the animation genre, including the Toy Story films, Buzz's origin story certainly looks to be a more direct sci-fi action approach to the character than the studio has ever explored. Between the various extraterrestrial threats teased in the film and Buzz's struggles in his early days as a Space Ranger, the story should prove an exciting new direction for both the franchise and character previously touched upon with the Warburton-led animated show.

The Lightyear teaser trailer also offers an interesting first tease of what audiences can expect from Chris Evans in the titular role, taking over from Allen's previous turn as Buzz in Toy Story 4. Fans of the Marvel actor are sure to also enjoy the seeming Easter egg from The Avengers franchise in which he was denied the opportunity to finish the iconic line of "Avengers assemble" until the record-breaking Avengers: Endgame. With the first teaser now out for the film, audiences should look forward to the arrival of a full trailer for Lightyear in the near future ahead of the film's June 17, 2022 release.
