Eternals Video Highlights Marvel's Post-Endgame Evolution

Marvel unveils a new behind-the-scenes featurette for Eternals spotlighting ChloĆ© Zhao's epic and intimate vision and Marvel's Post-Endgame evolution. Zhao is making her Marvel Cinematic Universe debut along with the titular team of immortal beings created by the Celestials 7,000 years ago to protect the Earth from their evil counterparts, the Deviants. When the events of Avengers: Endgame ignites the mysterious event known as "The Emergnce," the dysfunctional family must reunite to protect the world once again.

Zhao makes her MCU debut alongside most of Eternals' ensemble roster of stars including Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, Lia McHugh, Brian Tyree Henry, Lauren Ridloff, Barry Keoghan, Don Lee, Harish Patel, Kit Harington, Salma Hayek and Angelina Jolie. The cast for the film is led by familiar Marvel face Gemma Chan, though set in the new role of Sersi after having made her MCU debut as Minn-Erva in Captain Marvel. As the frequently delayed release date draws near, Marvel is looking to keep anticipation high for Eternals.

Zhao's hiring as Eternals' co-writer and director sent a wave of curiosity through Hollywood and audiences, as the filmmaker had only one title to her name with the critically acclaimed indie The Rider. Anticipation would start to build for her work on the MCU film when her second project, Nomadland, began making the festival circuit rounds and garnered three Oscar wins, including two for Zhao for Best Picture and Best Director. The latest video for Eternals certainly highlights the unique vision Zhao is bringing to the director's chair for the film, from its array of practical effects and locations on display to the more intimate camerawork letting the characters' emotions be seen more prominently.

Marvel head Kevin Feige has showered consistent praise for Zhao's approach to Eternals since it began shooting in mid 2019, especially with the more practical nature of her filmmaking and the decision to cast Gemma Chan as the emotional core of the story following her small prior appearance in Captain Marvel. Though reviews are still embargoed for the time being, the early reactions to Eternals have been just as positive as Feige's words, with many calling it the MCU's most epic and unique film to date. Only time will tell when the film hits theaters on November 5.
