DWTS: Biggest News Stories From The Cast This Week (Oct. 4)

From the COVID-19 pandemic affecting the show to host Tyra Banks wearing outlandish outfits, the past week has been very news-heavy for Dancing With The Stars season 30. So far, all of the celebrities have been doing their best in the DWTS ballroom. Despite quite a few behind-the-scenes obstacles, the celebs and pro dancers have still managed to put on a good show for the fans at home watching their favorite competition series.

Besides some of the off-screen drama taking place, the contestants danced their hearts out this week. Amanda Kloots, who honored her late husband, and Alan Bersten got the highest scores of the week. They received eights across the board for their Foxtrot, which brought their total score to 32. In turn, Jojo Siwa and her partner Jenna Johnson weren't too far behind. Coming in second place, Jojo managed to score 31 points during her latest performance on DWTS.

Even though the contestants did pretty well this week, someone still had to be sent home. This time around, Christine Chu and her partner Pasha Pashkov, as well as Martin Kove and his partner Britt Stewart, were the two duos up for elimination. The Bling Empire star was saved, whereas the Cobra Kai actor was sent home.

Right before Monday's live episode, Cheryl Burke, who is fully vaccinated, revealed that she had tested positive for COVID-19. Cheryl confirmed her positive COVID-19 test on her Instagram in an emotional video. "I have really bad news," Cheryl said. "The PCR test came back, and it came back positive. And I just feel so bad for Cody - I feel like I'm letting him down." The dancer, who is partnered with popular Peloton instructor Cody Rigsby, is hoping that she will be cleared soon and will be able to dance with Cody sooner rather than later. Since it's the beginning of the competition, Cheryl doesn't want to leave just yet.

Less than a week after Cheryl tested positive for COVID-19, so did her partner Cody, who is also fully vaccinated. He shared the news in an Instagram video, explaining this was the second time this year testing positive for the virus.  Cody, who danced via Zoom with Cheryl, said in his video: "I have tested positive for COVID again, the second time this year." Some of Cody's symptoms included some mild headache and cough, but it's nothing compared to how he felt when he first contracted the virus back in February 2021. As for his fate on DWTS, producers are still trying to figure that out.

Tyra Banks made headlines this week for her unusual outfit, which many believed to look like a dinosaur. The dress included massive fan-like sleeves that reminded viewers of the "deadly spitting dilophosaurus" from Jurassic Park. Alas, as reported by Page Six, the host stopped by The Late Late Show With James Corden to defend her style. "Different is what? Better," Tyra, who was roasted for her dress, said. "I don't have time to be normal in a pretty dress, because nobody is going to say anything about a pretty dress. You’ve got to push it and go for it." Even though the former model loved her dress, her stylist had a feeling the look would go viral. In fact, after the dress started making waves online, her stylist agreed that her dress made her look like a "lizard."

ABC executive Robert Mills took to Twitter this week to debunk a rumor that Olivia Jade had a deal to stay on DWTS for at least three weeks without being in danger of elimination. One fan shared a link to an article that mentioned Oliva having a deal with the reality series. The executive quickly fired back in a tweet and denied the rumor. "This is the dumbest thing I've ever heard," he said. "The show is a competition and as such is subject to legal and broadcast standard regulations." Neither Olivia nor ABC have further commented on the matter. However, it seems like Olivia's dancing skills are keeping her in the competition just fine.
