Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Hinokami Chronicles is an anime brawler that lets players pit the characters from Demon Slayer against each other in battle. The game has a surprisingly strong focus on narrative and telling the story of Demon Slayer, yet it's possible to quickly unlock the characters, for those who wish to get straight into fighting with their friends.
The Hinokami Chronicles follows the first seasons of the Demon Slayer anime, as well as the events of the movie. This means that the roster is limited to animated adaptation, which means most of the Twelve Kizuki and the Pillars aren't playable. It's likely that the game will receive a sequel in the future, once more seasons of the anime are broadcast, which will add the characters that have appeared in the original manga.
Almost the entire roster in The Hinokami Chronicles is made up of members from the Demon Slayers Corps. The notable exception to this is Nezuko. This is despite the fact that there are plenty of demons who appear as bosses in the game, with their own special moves and arena gimmicks. The developers will be adding playable demons as free DLC in post-launch updates, but players will mostly be using the Demon Slayers during the launch window of the game.

The bulk of the characters in The Hinokami Chronicles are unlocked through completing the story mode, while the Academy Kimetsu spin-off characters are rewards for the completionists. It bears mentioning that all of the characters outside of the three in the Prologue can be unlocked by spending Kimetsu points. The people who don't care about the story mode can receive Kimetsu points by taking part in online ranked matches, and use these to unlock the roster.
Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Hinokami Chronicles will be released for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on October 15, 2021.
