Aquaman 2: Amber Heard Debuts Mera’s Look For The Lost Kingdom

Amber Heard reveals a first look at Mera in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Warner Bros. pulled out all the stops for DC FanDome 2021, including offering behind-the-scenes footage for the upcoming James Wan and Jason Momoa-led blockbuster. The promo clip offered a glimpse at what viewers can expect from the DCEU movie, effectively hyping up the public for its release next year.

Released in 2018, the original Aquaman film remains the highest-grossing DC film of all time, pocketing more than $1.1 billion at the global box office against a production budget of just $160-200 million. So, it was only a matter of time before Warner Bros. greenlighted an Aquaman 2. There's going to be quite a wait for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, however, and the film is not due to release until 2022. Plot details are still scant at the moment, but it will focus heavily on the Lost Kingdom of Atlantis as per the movie's title. Production is currently underway and it seems like Heard is enjoying the whole process.

The actress recently took to her official Instagram account to share an image of herself with Mera's iconic red hair. In the caption, Heard simply wrote "Red-dy." Unfortunately, since it's a selfie, there is no other additional context for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom revealed in the snap. Nonetheless, fans will be excited to this small glimpse of the character ahead of the sequel's debut. Check it out below:

It's worth noting that in the Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom footage from DC FanDome 2021, there's a shot of Heard in her Mera costume, but her hair is all tied back. Chances are that this is because the production team was filming for underwater scenes, and were looking to make sure that the characters' locks flowed naturally to create the best shots. In the new image, however, the actress seems to be ready to work on a sequence set on land. As with the first Aquaman film, the upcoming sequel's story is expected to take place both underwater and in the real world. This fits in with Arthur Curry's own lineage being the son of a human being, Tom Curry (Temuera Morrison) and Queen Atlanna (Nicole Kidman).

At this point, it's difficult to predict what exactly will go down in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, including what the status of Arthur and Mera's relationship will be. It's clear that the pair are interested in each other, but there's been no confirmation thus far that they'll be an official couple in the follow-up film. One thing is for sure, the pair will continue to be on the same side fighting for the safety of Atlantis, especially with the continued threat from David Kane aka Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) looming over the underwater civilization.
