October's Animal Crossing Direct brought with it big news for fans of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, as the game's long-awaited 2.0 update will finally be releasing on November 5 with a wide array of game-changing new content, including the return of fan-favorite aspects of the series such as Brewster and Gyroids. Although there were quite a lot of Gyroids showcased in the reveal, three stood out as being brand new to the franchise.
The October 15 Animal Crossing Direct revealed quite a few other significant expansions coming to the game, which to many fans was long-awaited given the relative lack of substantial New Horizons updates in the months prior to the 2.0 update. Gyroids are far from the only familiar thing returning to the series. NPCs like Kapp'n and Harriet are both making comebacks, and along with them come updates to Harv's Island as well as Mystery Island Tours. Additional hairstyles, DIY recipes, furniture items, and even crops all appear during the Animal Crossing Direct reveal, meaning that there's a lot of planning and likely even some rearranging to be done to make way for all the new items.
In most Animal Crossing games, Gyroids can be dug up from the ground and placed as furniture items. Each one makes a unique noise, and the sounds can be combined or matched up to K.K. Slider song tracks. Previously, the NPC Lloid was the only Gyroid in New Horizons, and the 2.0 update marks the first time the furniture items will be appearing in the game proper. Another first is the fact that they can now be customized in different colors, and Gyroid Fragments can now be buried and later dug up as a fully-functioning Gyroid. Although it's hard to say just how many new Gyroids will be appearing in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, at least three are guaranteed thanks to their presence in the Animal Crossing Direct.
Not much was seen of the new squeezoid model, though its name was revealed during the Animal Crossing Direct and that at least gives some indication of what it might sound like. Perhaps its tone fluctuates up and down as if it were being squeezed, or maybe it makes a high-pitched wheezing sound. When it's released alongside the other gyroids as part of the New Horizons 2.0 update in early November, players will be able to search for it and find out.
The squeakoid is another new Gyroid introduced during the Animal Crossing Direct, as well as the only one on which the customization feature is actually shown. Squeakoids can be painted in a wide range of colors, including yellow, white, pink, and brown, and the multicolored accessories on top of them change colors according to customization. This helps them match their environment while still maintaining a unique splash of brightness. While it isn't quite clear what noise squeakoids will make, if the name is any indication, it's likely that they'll make some sort of high-pitched squeaking sound that should pair well with other Animal Crossing 2.0 Gyroids that are lower in tone.
The drummoid is one more Gyroid that didn't get too much attention during the Animal Crossing Direct. It can clearly be dug up out of the ground like others, but beyond that, it's hard to say what it could look or sound like. The name could imply that it makes a sound like a drum, though whether this is a more rapid percussion noise or something more akin to a bass drum is unclear for the time being. One thing that's clear is that there will be plenty of options to choose from when picking which Gyroids to utilize in Animal Crossing: New Horizons 2.0.
